Every Player Has a Story, Not Just the Star Player
Football naturally celebrates the goalscorers, match-winners and outstanding performers. Grassroots football has an opportunity to celebrate everyone else too.
Every team has its standout players.
The striker who scores for fun. The midfielder who seems to see everything before everyone else. The goalkeeper who produces the save everybody talks about on the way home.
Their achievements deserve recognition.
But they’re not the only story.
What about the youngster who turned up for their first training session barely confident enough to join in?
The substitute who kept encouraging their teammates while waiting for a chance?
The defender who rarely scores but never stops working?
Or simply the child who might never become the best player in the team, but absolutely loves being part of it?
Their football story matters too.
Success Comes in Different Forms
At grassroots level, progress isn’t always measured in goals and trophies.
Sometimes success is a child gaining confidence.
Making a new friend.
Learning to accept defeat.
Mastering something they couldn’t do six months earlier.
Finding somewhere they feel they belong.
These achievements might never appear on a results page, but they can mean an enormous amount to a young player and their family.
That’s one reason Maranovo places individual players at the heart of its Club Annuals, with player profiles sitting alongside team photographs, coaches, club achievements and other memories from the season.
It’s not about deciding who’s the star.
The children are the stars.
Because years from now, few people will remember who finished top scorer in an under-10s season.
But that youngster may remember the teammates they laughed with, the coach who believed in them and the feeling of pulling on their club shirt.
Professional football celebrates the exceptional.
Grassroots football can do something even better.
It can make every child feel they mattered.
